Random London Address Generator

A random London address generator produces fictional postal addresses that use real LONDON postcode districts (E, EC, N, NW, SE, SW, W, WC), a real ceremonial county (Greater London) and Royal Mail address formatting, for use as software test data.

Generate realistic random London addresses for software testing. Each address combines a real LONDON postcode district (EC1A, EC1V, EC2A, EC2M, EC3M, EC4M and 69 more) with a British street name, the LONDON post town and the ceremonial county of Greater London, laid out to Royal Mail conventions. Telephone numbers use the 020 7946 0xxx range that Ofcom reserves for drama, so no generated number can reach a real subscriber.

Postal notes

  • London is served by eight postcode areas - E, EC, N, NW, SE, SW, W and WC - all sharing the single post town LONDON.
  • The central EC, WC, W1, SW1 and E1W districts use the AA9A / A9A formats (for example EC1A 1BB, W1D 3QU, E1W 3TJ), which many address forms handle incorrectly.
  • E20 was originally a fictional district used by a television programme before being allocated to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2011.
  • A London address does not use a county line: the post town LONDON plus the postcode is sufficient for delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real London addresses?

No. The LONDON post town, its 75 postcode districts and the Greater London ceremonial county are genuine, but the house numbers, street pairings and names are fictional and the last three characters of each postcode are generated. The results are structurally valid test data, not deliverable addresses.

Which postcode districts does London use?

London is served by 75 districts in the E and EC and N and NW and SE and SW and W and WC postcode areas: EC1A, EC1V, EC2A, EC2M, EC3M, EC4M, EC4Y, WC1B, WC1X, WC2E, WC2N, W1D, W1J, W1T, W2, W4, W5, W6, W8, W9, W11, W12, SW1A, SW1P, SW1X, SW2, SW3, SW4, SW6, SW7, SW11, SW15, SW17, SW18, SW19, SE1, SE5, SE8, SE10, SE13, SE15, SE16, SE18, SE22, SE23, N1, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N10, N16, N17, N22, NW1, NW3, NW5, NW6, NW8, NW10, NW11, E1, E1W, E2, E3, E5, E8, E9, E10, E11, E14, E15, E17, E20.

What is the dialling code for London?

London uses the 020 dialling code. Generated numbers are not built on live 020 subscriber ranges: every number comes from the 020 7946 0xxx block that Ofcom reserves for drama and fiction, so it can never dial a real person.

Is a county line required on a London address?

No. Royal Mail has not required a county line since 1996 - the post town (LONDON) and a correct postcode are sufficient. The generator includes Greater London as an optional line because many address forms and legacy databases still expect one.

Can I generate London addresses through the API?

Yes. Call GET /api/v1/addresses/random?location=london&count=25 for JSON, or add &format=csv, &format=sql or &format=xml for bulk export. No API key is required.
